Welcome to MCPI

Welcome to Maine Coon Polydactyl International (MCPI), a community where information exchange, research, current journal article reviews and valuable file and bookmark archives make a positive contribution to the preservation, promotion and protection of the Maine Coon Polydactyl. We also love to hear about show brags and all things Maine Coon Poly. MCPI is made up of a diverse group of people, some of our members are entry clerks, ring clerks, and club officials for cat associations such as GCCF, TICA, FIFe & CFA. We also have a judge, Junior Achiever Liaison and a veterinarian. Many are breeders of Maine Coons and or Maine Coon polydactyls, and some of us are Fanciers. We come together from 15 different countries around the globe to discuss our common interest, the Maine Coon Polydactyl Cat.

MCPI has many informative articles relating to the Maine Coon Poly, we also provide a list of worldwide Maine Coon breeders and fanciers a section to help you find any Maine Coon Polydactyl kittens available and lots of cat and kitten photos in our gallery.

There are other groups on the Internet actively seeking only positive contributions. You will find that MCPI is different in that we welcome all experiences and opinions. It is the belief of MCPI that all data is valid and should be collected in order to provide an holistic account of polydactyly. We cannot pick and choose, we must be transparent and honest. We cannot educate and debate fully if we are not fully educated ourselves or are being selective in our approach.

Based on scientific studies and years of combined breeder experiences we have a hypothesis that polydactyly in the Maine Coon is a harmless trait. If you have any evidence or experiences that can disprove this we would love to hear from you on enquiries@mcpi.org or webmaster@mcpi.org

We use a forum list to discuss our work in progress. There are many exciting things happening at the moment and we need volunteers to help with our goals. Some of the topics currently underway are:

* Education & Promotion
* DNA testing with Dr Leslie Lyons
* Showing under New Traits with TICA
* Possible research study with Dr Pfleuger to isolate the poly gene
